The bill's denomination, 1787, is the year that Delaware was admitted to the Union as the 1st of the Original 13 Colonies.  The actual date of admission, 12/7/1787 is encoded in the serial number within DE, the state's abbreviation. 

 

The Back of the Bill pictures the Blue Hen as the state bird, the Peach Blossom as the state flower, the American Holly as the state tree, and the Weakfish.
